This segment from the 2012 Young Heroes Award Ceremony features a profile of honoree Nathaniel Hearn, a senior at the Dunham School in Baton Rouge. Despite suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and asthma, Hearn is an excellent student and a member of the school band and fencing team. Inspired by his stay at the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, Hearn has led drives that have collected 600 video tapes and games and 300 batteries for toys and monitors at the hospital. Because his grandfather died of a ruptured aneurysm, he also helps to raise awareness of the dangers of aortic aneurysms.
