Description
An oral history interview conducted on September 12, 2017, with Dave Curry of Alexandria, Louisiana. Curry, a native of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his assignment to the USS Safeguard; the work of a salvage ship; their first operation in towing a ship that had gone aground on a beach 50 miles north of Da Nang Harbor; assuming the role of acting captain during the rescue following the incapacitation of the ship’s captain; the USS Safeguard running aground during the rescue operation; and the subsequent investigation into the incident.
