This segment from the October 8, 2021, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Kara St. Cyr’s visit to the house formerly known as the Giron Tourist Home (The Big House) in Opelousas, one of the sites featured in “The Negro Motorists Green Book,” a travel guide that listed locations that were safe for African Americans to visit during segregation. She interviews: Wilbert “Sub” Giron, the grandson of the owner; Donald Giron, his cousin; and Betty Malveaux, the current resident of the house.
