Description
This segment from the June 14, 2019, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau’s report on the predictions of a record-size dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico over the summer due to the high Mississippi River levels and the chemicals used by farmers in the Midwest. He interviews Dr. Nancy Rabalais, a marine ecologist at Louisiana State University (LSU) and expert on the dead zone. She discusses: the changes to the dead zone that she has witnessed since the 1980s; her experiences diving in the dead zone; her concerns about the ecosystems impacted by the dead zone; and the need to change agricultural practices in the Midwest.
