This segment from the April 26, 2019, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau’s report on members of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council testifying in the Senate Education Committee at the 2019 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on their bill allowing for student input into their school emergency plans. It includes testimony by: Andrew Gary of St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie; Laura Peters of Jena High School; Madeleine Malbrough of the Houma Christian School; Eugenia Williams of Westminster Christian Academy in Opelousas; and Hrilina Ramrakhiani of Summerstone Academy in New Orleans. It also includes: State Senator Beth Mizell discussing the bill with the students; State Senator Dan “Blade” Morrish, the committee chairman, announcing the passage of the bill out of committee; and State Senator Conrad Appel, the bill’s sponsor, thanking the committee members. Moreau also interviews: Eugenia Williams; Caitlyn Foret of Walker High School; Andrew Gary; and Megan Bella, the coordinator of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council.
