Description
This segment from the February 8, 2019, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charles Jones’ update on the restoration of two Native American dugout canoes – a 600-year-old Caddo canoe discovered in Shreveport in 2017 and a 1500-year-old Chitimacha canoe discovered in Assumption Parish in 2018. Jones reports that the restoration work is being performed at the Conservation Research Laboratory at Texas A&M University in College Station. He interviews Dr. Chip McGimsey, the Louisiana State Archaeologist, and Dr. Peter Fix, the co-principal investigator for the canoe conservation at Texas A&M University.
