This segment from the October 13, 2017, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Kelly Spires’ report on the work of Rising Foundations, a nonprofit organization in New Orleans that helps recently released prisoners transition back to life outside of prison. Her report touches on the difficulties experienced by ex-convicts in attaining a drivers’ license, their establishment of a communal loan program to help in the payment of unpaid parking tickets, and their small business incubator.
