Description
This segment from the July 7, 2017, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Andre Moreau’s report on the resources available for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. Moreau reports that 12% of Louisiana children under the age of 18 live with their grandparents. He visits the Baton Rouge home of Francis Cain, a grandmother who is raising her five grandchildren. She discusses the experience of raising her grandchildren and the support she receives from Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Moreau then conducts an in-studio interview with Dot Thibodeaux and Danna Spayde, the founders of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. They discuss: why they founded the organization; the custody issues facing grandparents; their support group meetings at the Family Road of Baton Rouge; and the lack of financial resources available to grandparents.
