This segment from the April 14, 2017, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Tika Laudun’s visit to a ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Kidd in Baton Rouge commemorating the 72nd anniversary of an attack on the naval destroyer during World War II. Laudun reports that a Japanese kamikaze plane attacked the U.S.S. Kidd on April 11, 1945, killing 38 crew members. She interviews Fred King, a gunnery mate on the destroyer, who shares his memories of the attack. The U.S.S.
