This segment from the February 10, 2017, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s report on the tornadoes that hit Louisiana on February 7, 2017. Whinham reports that at least nine confirmed tornadoes touched down in seven parishes, including New Orleans East, Donaldsonville, Watson, and Killian. This report includes interviews with: Wanda Marler, tornado survivor; Chief Dennis Hill of the Killian Police Department; and Destin Marler, tornado survivor. Whinham also conducts an in-studio interview with Mike Steele of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP). Steele discusses: the reasons for the lack of fatalities during the tornadoes; their damage assessment; the next steps in the recovery; and the importance of documenting damage.
