This segment from the August 21, 2015, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Dorothy Kendrick’s report on the closure of four of the seven community swimming pools in East Baton Rouge Parish operated by BREC, including the pool at Gus Young Park. Her report touches on: the high cost of maintaining community swimming pools; the efforts to raise money to reopen the swimming pool at Gus Young Park; BREC giving grants to the YMCA to teach swimming lessons to children from low income areas; and the other services available through the BREC system.
