Description
This segment from the July 10, 2015, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s report on the historic $18.7 billion settlement between BP and the states affected by the 2010 BP Oil Spill. Sanford reports that Louisiana will receive a $6.8 billion portion of the settlement. This report includes footage of Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell announcing the settlement. Sanford then interviews Congressman Garret Graves, who served as a chief negotiator of the settlement for Louisiana for four years through his role as the chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Congressman Graves discusses: how the settlement was reached; how the money will be used; the timeline of the settlement; his response to critics of the settlement; and his belief that the deal will be approved by the courts.
