This segment from the August 8, 2014, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s in-studio interview with State Representative Valarie Hodges, Isabel Medina, a professor of law at Loyola University in New Orleans, and Corina Salazar, the director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Baton Rouge, on the ongoing illegal immigration crisis. They discuss: the influx of unaccompanied children from Central America crossing the Mexico-United States border; the release of 1,000 of these children into the custody of family members in Louisiana; how the federal authorities are handling these children; and possible reasons for the influx.
