Description
This segment from the August 9, 2013, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s report on Diplomas Now and Choices, two high school dropout prevention programs that provide support for at-risk middle school students. He first visits Capitol Middle School in Baton Rouge to see the Diplomas Now program in action. He interviews student Jenelle O’Conner and principal Viola Jackson and sits in as Jennifer Zeringue, the transformation coordinator, leads a weekly team meeting. Whinham also visits Scotlandville Middle School in Baton Rouge to see Rotary Club member Carl Herrick lead a Choices workshop. This report also includes an interview with Leo Muller, the executive director of Choices.org.
