This segment from the October 19, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Sue Lincoln’s report on the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s (BESE) approval of new rules for the licensing of private schools. It includes highlights from the BESE Board Meeting, including Superintendent of Education John White explaining the new rules and public comments by Peter Barnes of the Louisiana Association of Christian Schools and Steve Monaghan of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers. Lincoln also examines Conquering Word Christian Academy, a private school with two locations in Marrero and New Orleans East and a pending application for a third school in Slidell. Lincoln reports that the school is currently under investigation for FEMA fraud.
