These stories include: Scott Sinclair, the president of the Tensas Delta Exploration Company, Dr. Sherwood Gagliano, an environmental scientist, and Jimmy Faircloth, an attorney for the landowners testifying on a bill related to the 270 legacy lawsuits pending between landowners and oil companies over the clean-up costs of properties that have suffered environmental damage; Sheree Kerner, the president of United Cab Company, and S. Christie Smith, IV, of the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers testifying on a bill related to the punishment for murdering taxicab drivers; State Senator Fred Mills testifying on his bill requiring people on probation for a first or second offense DWI to undergo a substance abuse evaluation administered by the Department of Health and Hospitals; and State Representative Thomas Carmody, Jr., LSU System President John Lombardi, and State Representative John Schroder testifying on bills giving the Board of Regents more authority to oversee the state’s four higher education management boards – the Louisiana State University System, the Southern University System, the University of Louisiana System, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
