Description
This segment from the April 20, 2012, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Christina Melton’s report on the second anniversary of the BP Oil Spill. During a visit to Bay Jimmy in Barataria Bay, Melton interviews Melanie Driscoll of the National Audubon Society about the oil that still bubbles to the surface in warm temperatures, the effect of this oil on pelicans, and the possibility that cleaning this area could lead to the loss of more marshes. She also talks to David Muth of the National Wildlife Federation about the uncertainty over how long the ecosystem will be affected by the oil spill. This report also includes an interview with Garret Graves of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority on the one million barrels of oil that remain in the Gulf of Mexico, the fines facing BP, and the goal of the RESTORE Act in allocating those fine monies to the restoration of the Gulf Coast. Hosts: Charlie Whinham and Shauna Sanford
