Description
This segment from the February 25, 2011, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to an abandoned lot in Monroe that was once the site of Casino Park, the host stadium for the 1932 Negro League World Series between the Monroe Monarchs and the Pittsburgh Crawfords. He talks to two Monroe natives, historian Tom Aiello and former sportswriter Paul Letlow, about the little known history of the Monroe Monarchs and the nine future Hall of Famers who participated in the World Series, including Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson for the Crawfords and Hilton Smith for the Monarchs.
