This segment from the December 17, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the annual Christmas Festival of Lights in Natchitoches. He interviews Iris Harper of the Natchitoches Convention and Visitors Bureau, who discusses the history of the festival and the original designs used in the light displays. Whinham also meets with Sandra Dickens, the owner of Dickens & Co., who tells him about the unique Christmas shopping available in the city and the new tradition of building a man-made snow hill. During the holiday tour of homes, Whinham celebrates a 19th century Christmas. He also talks to homeowner Gary Cathey about the tradition of the upside down Christmas tree.
