Description
This segment from the June 18, 2010, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s travels with ornithologist Michael Seymour of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on a search and rescue mission in Barataria Bay to save birds affected by the BP Oil Spill. During this trip, Seymour monitors bird colonies on Queen Bess Island, Bird Island #2, and Grand Isle Marsh and attempts to rescue an oil-soaked green heron. Seymour also talks to Whinham about the bird colonies they encounter, the effect of the oil on the birds, and the difficult task of saving oiled birds while not disturbing nesting colonies.
