This segment from the December 18, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit to the new exhibit at the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson, a replica of the Number 45 airplane built by the Wedell-Williams Aviation Corporation in Patterson in the early 1930s. Whinham interviews Jim Clevenger, the airplane builder and aviator who built the Number 45 replica, who discusses the legacy of barnstorming pilot and airplane designer Jimmy Wedell and Patterson Mayor Harry Williams in building the fastest racing airplanes in the 1930s in Patterson, Louisiana. Whinham also talks to Steve Bierhorst of the Wedell-Williams Memorial Aviation Foundation and Diana Buckley of the Louisiana State Museum about the history of the Wedell-Williams Aviation Corporation and the airplanes that are on display at the museum in Patterson.
