Description
This segment from the October 23, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features producer Donna LaFleur’s visit to the Louisiana International Piano Competition in Alexandria. LaFleur reports that 24 pianists from 15 different countries participated in the competition at both the junior and artist levels. She interviews: Nikita Fitenko, the competition founder and artistic director, on the history of the competition; Joshua Zano, the music director for the Rapides Symphony Orchestra, on this year’s competition; Katerina Zaitseva, the associate executive director and junior competition director, on the talent of the pianists competing at the junior level; and competitors Kun Yao of Canada, Anna Tan of Monroe, and Andrew Tan of Monroe on the experience of competing in a major piano competition.
