This segment from the July 17, 2009, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s interview with LSU Chancellor Michael Martin on the impact of impending budget cuts to the Louisiana State University System. Chancellor Martin discusses: the possible elimination of positions, layoffs, and furloughs; the possibility of tuition increases, which could result in lower enrollment; restructuring at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center and LSU Press; and the possibility of the elimination of academic programs if the economic downturn lasts another year. Sanford also talks to Dr. Bill Richardson, the Director of the LSU AgCenter, about the impact of the budgets cuts to the agricultural stations across the state.
