This segment from the October 10, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s visit with the crew of the “Journey of Remembrance” as they arrive in Baton Rouge during their journey down the Mississippi River in a flatboat in honor of President Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday. This trip, which is sponsored by the Spencer County Visitors Bureau in Indiana, recreates a journey made by a young Abraham Lincoln in 1828 from Indiana to New Orleans in order to deliver goods and produce. Whinham talks to the travelers, Melissa Miller of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau, actor Bud Schaaf, Captain Bob Cherry, flatboat builder John Cooper, flatboat owner Ron Drake, and Louisiana photographer C.C.
