This segment from the September 26, 2008, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Shauna Sanford’s visit to DeSoto Parish in northwest Louisiana, where 150 landowners were recently made instant millionaires after leasing their mineral rights to oil and gas companies for land they own on the Haynesville Shale. The DeSoto Parish government also made $28.7 million. The Haynesville Shale could be the fourth largest natural gas reservoir in the world and the largest in the United States.
