Description
This segment from the October 7, 2005, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Charlie Whinham’s report on the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans relocating classes to Baton Rouge following Hurricane Katrina. Whinham visits three of the temporary class locations, a Baton Rouge movie theater, the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He also talks to several faculty members and students about the school’s temporary move to Baton Rouge, including: clinical nursing instructor Sandra Waguespack; nursing students Rebekah Adams and Jennifer Davis; Dr. John Rock, the Chancellor of the LSU Health Sciences Center; Larry Hollier, the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine; Jim Cairo, the Dean of the School of Allied Health Professionals; medical students Logan Cusarek and Caroline Raasch; LSU Dental Hygiene Coordinator Carrie Mason; dental students Gina Dietering and Eryk Hargrove; and Allied Health Professor Andy Pellet. Lastly, Whinham also speaks to Karen St. Cyr of the Port of the Baton Rouge about the arrival of FinnJett, a cruise ship that will serve as temporary housing for the faculty and students.
