Description

This segment from the October 7, 2005, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on the success of the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, which is a member of the Louisiana Charity Hospital System. Ekings reports on the reasons for the hospital’s success, including the modern facilities, insured patients choosing the hospital for their treatments, and the self-managed campus. She also touches on the negative impact of the hospital being forced to send a portion of its revenue to Baton Rouge to manage other hospitals within the charity system. This report includes interviews with: Dr. John C. McDonald, the Chancellor of the hospital; Fred Moffitt, a patient; Secretary Fred Cerise of the Department of Health and Hospitals; Aaron Selber, Jr., a hospital board member; State Senator Sherri Cheek; Donald J. Zebek, a hospital board member; and State Senator Lydia Jackson.
