Description
This segment from the February 17, 1995, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Arcie Chapa’s report on the welfare reform bill currently under consideration in Congress. Chapa reports that the bill would allow the states more control on how they administer their welfare programs. She interviews: Tim Wize, public policy analyst; Wanda Tobias, welfare recipient; Tyra Pellerin, Goodwill Industries; and Brenda Badon, Project Independence. Host Robert Collins then conducts an in-studio interview with State Senator Jay Dardenne and Howard Prejean, the assistant secretary for the Office of Family Support with the Louisiana Department of Social Services. They discuss how the welfare reform would impact Louisiana.
