This segment from the June 4, 1993, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Jeff Duhe’s report on the tenth week of the 1993 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. The first part of his report focuses on the conference committee on the state budget and the effort to raise taxes. His report includes: Senate President Sammy Nunez speaking during the conference committee; an interview with State Representative Bo Ackal; State Representatives Kip Holden and Bo Ackal speaking on the House floor; State Senator John Guidry speaking on the Senate floor; an interview with Dan Juneau of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI); and highlights of Governor Edwin Edwards’ press conference. Duhe also report on the other action at the session, including: an update on the capital outlay bill; State Senators Foster Campbell and Charles Jones debating Campbell’s bill consolidating the higher education governing boards; and State Representatives Steve Theriot and Roy Brun debating a bill banning spanking at day care centers. Lastly, Robert Collins conducts an in-studio interview with Mark Drennen of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR). He discusses the lack of reforms made during the session.
