Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from July 10, 1992, features Robert Collins, Jeff Duhe, and Arcie Chapa reporting on the pro-life protests and pro-choice counter-protests at the Delta Women’s Clinic in Baton Rouge. Duhe first reports on why the National Right to Life’s Organization Rescue decided to protest an abortion clinic in Baton Rouge, including comments by Reverend Keith Tucci. His report also looks back at the anti-abortion bills passed by the Louisiana Legislature in 1990 and 1991, which were both vetoed by Governor Buddy Roemer. The Legislature overrode his veto in 1991. Next, Chapa reports on the pro-choice counter-protests led by the Louisiana Coalition for Reproductive Freedom. Her report includes interviews with: Ester McGuire, Delta Women’s Clinic administrator; Michelle Masse, clinic defender; Elizabeth Volz, clinic defender; and Dawn Babbush of the National Women’s Rights Organizing Coalition. Next, Duhe reports on the pro-life movement. He interviews: Reverend Paul Schenk of Operation Rescue; Reverend David Diamond; Ronnie Chriceol, pro-life; Mike Rauner, pro-life; Ken Wood, pro-life; and Missy Wood, pro-life. Lastly, Chapa continues her report on the pro-choice counter-protestors. She interviews: Kim Colmone, LSU student and clinic defender; Eileen Scheff; and Anne Schiffman of the Louisiana Coalition for Reproductive Freedom.
