Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from March 22, 1991, focuses on the state’s new teacher evaluation system. Karen Nachman first reports on the controversy surrounding the teacher evaluation system enacted by the Roemer Administration through the Children First Act, including the recent state court ruling that the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) cannot revoke a lifetime teaching certificate and the Roemer Administration’s proposed changes to the system. Robert Collins then leads a panel discussion with Sheila Chavis of the Louisiana Department of Education, Linda Day of the Louisiana Association of Educators, and Bob Crowley of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers. They discuss the differing views of the Roemer Administration and the teachers on the teacher evaluation system.
