Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from May 27, 1988, features Ken Lormand and Roger Sockman reporting on the sixth week of the 1988 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Sockman first reports on the debate in the House Appropriations Committee on the funding for local school systems for non-instructional educational items, including comments by State Representative Raymond Laborde and an interview with Governor Buddy Roemer. Next, Ken Lormand reports on Governor Roemer’s bridge financing plan to help local governments prepare for the loss of state funding. It includes: Governor Roemer presenting the plan to the House Appropriations Committee; an interview with Lafayette Mayor Dud Lastrapes; and an interview with Brusly Mayor Rod Prejean, the president of the Louisiana Municipal Association, and Interim Commissioner of Administration Steve Cochran. Lastly, Sockman recaps the week’s other activity at the session.
