This segment from the March 28, 1986, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features two reports on the state party conventions. First, Laura Myers reports on the Republican Party Convention in Baton Rouge. Her report includes: highlights of President Ronald Reagan endorsing Congressman Henson Moore in the 1986 United States Senate election at an event in New Orleans; Congressman Henson Moore speaking at the convention; a speech by United States Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi; Clyde Holloway discussing his candidacy for Louisiana’s 8th Congressional District; former Governor Dave Treen gaveling in the convention; and delegate Miguel Delgado discussing his support of sending aid to the rebel forces in Nicaragua. Next, Karen Nachman reports on the Democratic Party Convention in Alexandria. Her report includes interviews with: James Brady, state party chairman; Tucker Melancon of the Democratic National Committee; State Representative William Sumlin; Congresswoman Cathy Long; and Speedy Long, delegate.
