This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from April 30, 1985, features Ken Johnson hosting a daily legislative report on the 1985 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Johnson first reports on the day’s headlines. Laura Myers then reports on a few of the last minute bills filed for the session. Her report includes: highlights from a press conference given by State Representative Mike Thompson and State Senator Allen Bares on their legislation putting right to work into the state constitution; an interview with State Representative Jimmy Long on his education reform bills; an interview with State Representative Diana Bajoie on her amusement ride safety bill; an interview with State Representative Francis Thompson on his gasohol production bills; an interview with State Representative Francis Heitmeier on his bill allowing gambling cruises to nowhere; an interview with State Senator Richard Turnley on his DWI penalties bill; an interview with State Representative Garey Forster on the growing legislative independence; and an interview with State Senator B.B. “Sixty” Rayburn on the state budget deficit and the right to work legislation.
