Description
This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from May 7, 1984, features Ken Johnson and Robyn Ekings hosting a daily legislative report on the 1984 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Johnson first reports on the day’s headlines. These stories include: an interview with State Representative Joe Delpit on the alleged rift between Governor Edwin Edwards and Democratic presidential candidate Jesse Jackson; the campaign contributions received by members of the Louisiana Congressional delegation; and highlights of Ed Steimel, the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), speaking at the Baton Rouge Press Club. Next, Ekings reports on a proposal requiring financial disclosure for lobbyists. Her report includes interviews with State Representative Mary Landrieu and lobbyist Charles Smith. Lastly, Johnson and Ekings conduct an in-studio interview with Jean Bell, a lobbyist for the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association, and Roberta Madden, a lobbyist with Common Cause. They discuss: their stance on the lobbyist disclosure bill; the work of lobbyists; and the public’s misconception about their work.
