Description
This segment from the April 6, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on Louisiana’s upcoming presidential primary. Ekings reports that the Louisiana Legislature voted to suspend the primary in late 1983 and to hold caucuses in order to save $2 million. Following a lawsuit from Democratic candidate Jesse Jackson’s campaign, a federal court ordered Louisiana to hold a primary on May 5th. Ekings also reports on the growing interest in the Democratic primary between frontrunners Walter Mondale, Jesse Jackson, and Gary Hart. She interviews: Paul Valteau of the Jesse Jackson campaign; Shelly Beychok of the Walter Mondale campaign; Jimmy Gill of the Gary Hart campaign; and Secretary of State Jim Brown. Host: Beth Courtney
