Description
This segment from the February 10, 1984, episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on Superintendent of Education-Elect Tom Clausen’s recovery from a heart attack. Ekings reports that Dr. Clausen suffered a heart attack one week after the election. Ekings follows Dr. Clausen as he participates in a three-month recovery program of exercise and patient education at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. She also interviews: Dr. Clausen, who discusses his heart attack, his recovery, and his readiness to take office; Collette Barrett, a nurse, who discusses the importance of controlling the risk factors of heart disease; and Dr. Terry Rehn, a cardiologist, who discusses Dr. Clausen’s warning signs of a heart attack and his need for life-long check-ups.
