Description
This segment from the May 27, 1983, episode of “Louisiana: The State We’re In” features Robyn Ekings’ report on this week’s meeting of the House Ways and Means Committee at the 1983 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Ekings reports that the House Appropriations Committee sent the state budget to the House Ways and Means Committee in order to raise over $30 million in fees to balance the budget. The report includes testimony by Speaker of the House John Hainkel, Commissioner of Administration Bubba Henry, and Budget Officer Ralph Perlman. It also features questions by State Representatives Clyde Kimball, Terry Gee, John Ensminger, and Peppi Bruneau about the possibility of finding more areas to cut in the budget instead of raising fees. Lastly, Ekings interviews State Representatives Ron Gomez and John Alario about the actions of the committee.
