Description

This episode of the series “Louisiana Public Square” from April 25, 2018, features Robert Travis Scott leading a discussion between the audience members and panelists on long-term care for the elderly in Louisiana. A background report on the topic precedes the discussion. It includes interviews with: Andrew Muhl of AARP Louisiana; Rebekah Allen of the Advocate newspaper; Mark Berger of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association; Joe McPherson, a nursing home operator; and State Senator Conrad Appel. The audience members then share their family’s perspective on long-term care for the elderly. A panel of experts then joins the audience to answer their questions. They discuss: the current balance of nursing home care and home and community-based care in Louisiana; state funding for elder care; the eligibility requirements for Medicaid managed care services; the changes in nursing home care; and what changes need to be made to the current system of care. Hosts: Beth Courtney and Robert Travis Scott
