A lecture by Neil White on August 16, 2010, for the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library’s “One Book, One Community” program. White is the author of “In the Sanctuary of Outcasts,” a memoir of his time in prison at the National Hansen’s Disease Center in Carville, Louisiana, a leper colony. Following the lecture, Beth Courtney of LPB moderates a discussion with White and three other panelists: Simeon Peters, a Carville resident with Hansen’s Disease; Elizabeth “Bebe” Blanchard, a young woman with Hansen’s Disease; and Father Reynolds Garland, the chaplain at the Carville center.
