Description

Elizabeth Crisp moderates a debate at the Baton Rouge Press Club on October 8, 2018, between five of the candidates for Louisiana Secretary of State: Turkey Creek Mayor Heather Cloud; State Representative Rick Edmonds; State Representative Julie Stokes; Interim Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin; and former First Assistant Secretary of State Renee Fontenot Free. The debate begins with each candidate’s opening statement. Former State Senator Elbert Guillory also makes an opening statement on behalf of former State Senator A.G. Crowe, who was unable to attend the debate. Members of the press then ask the candidates questions on the following topics: elections integrity; restoring faith in the office following the resignation of Secretary of State Tom Schedler; funding for cybersecurity; self-generated revenue; the state archives; and voting machine contracts. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
