This excerpt from the series “Louisiana: A History” features a look back at the Battle of New Orleans from the War of 1812. On January 8, 1815, General Andrew Jackson led 5,000 American troops into a decisive victory over the 14,000 British troops under the command of General Edward Pakenham.
