Description
This segment from the February 27, 2016, episode of the series “Art Rocks!” features producer Dorothy Kendrick’s report on the preparations for artist Nick Cave’s Sound Suit performance in Shreveport, which is a part of the effort to revitalize the Shreveport Common area. Kendrick reports that the goal of this performance is for the city of Shreveport to hear the voices of the people who live in the housing provided by social services organizations in Shreveport Common. Kendrick follows Cave as he visits with the residents as they make blankets to be used in the performance under the guidance of an artist-in-residence. Kendrick also interviews: Nick Cave; Pam Atchison, the executive director of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council; Kathryn Usher, an artist at Mercy Center; Heather Beauvais, an artist at Providence House; Karen LaBeau, an artist at the McAdoo Center; Jerry Davenport, an artist at the Volunteers of America’s Lighthouse; Sherry Tamburo of Providence House; Michael Green, a recovering alcoholic; Larry Nickles, a resident at Mercy Center; and Bob Faust, Cave’s special projects director.
