Description

Beth Courtney and Barry Erwin of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) moderate a live debate from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on September 26, 2019, between the top three candidates for Governor, Congressman Ralph Abraham (R), businessman Eddie Rispone (R), and Governor John Bel Edwards. The debate features several rounds of questions: questions for all candidates, questions for a specific candidate, candidate-to-candidate questions, and a series of lightning round questions. A panel of journalists asks the candidates the majority of the questions: Natasha Williams of Louisiana Public Broadcasting, Greg Hilburn of the USA Today Network of newspapers, and Mark Ballard of the Advocate newspaper. The candidates answer questions on the following topics: their news sources; calling a constitutional convention; transportation funding; early childhood education; creating more job opportunities; capital punishment; budget cuts; and the negative impact of tariffs on Louisiana. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
