Description

Beth George of LPB and Charles Zewe of WYES moderate a live debate in Baton Rouge and New Orleans on October 18, 1979, between the nine candidates for Governor: Lieutenant Governor Jimmy Fitzmorris (D); L.D. Knox (D); Greg Nelson (Socialist Worker’s Party); State Senator Edgar “Sonny” Mouton (D); Congressman Dave Treen (R); Secretary of State Paul Hardy (D); Speaker of the House E.L. “Bubba” Henry; Public Service Commission Chairman Louis Lambert (D); and Ken Lewis (D). The moderators ask the candidates questions on the following topics: campaign finance; government spending; education; right to work; and the environment. The debate ends with each candidate’s closing statement.
