Description
Andre Moreau hosts live coverage of Governor John Bel Edwards’ opening address to the 2023 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 10, 2023. Prior to the speech, Moreau and Barry Erwin of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) preview the major issues of the session. In the House chamber, Father Joshua Johnson of the Diocese of Baton Rouge leads a prayer and Deterrius Johnson sings the National Anthem. During his speech, Governor Edwards discusses: the progress made during his two terms in office; his state budget proposal, including teacher pay raises; his legislative priorities, including increasing the minimum wage, equal pay for equal work, adding exceptions to the abortion law for rape and incest, and abolishing the death penalty. Following the speech, Moreau and Erwin analyze the Governor’s remarks.
