Shauna Sanford hosts live coverage of Governor Bobby Jindal’s opening address to the 2011 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature on April 25, 2011. Prior to the speech, Sanford and Robert Travis Scott of the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) discuss the state’s $1.6 billion budget shortfall and the proposed legislation related to higher education. In the House Chamber, Pastor Mark Foster leads a prayer and Senate President Joel Chaisson leads the Pledge of Allegiance. During his speech, Governor Jindal discusses: his administration’s accomplishments in the areas of ethics reform, workforce development, education, infrastructure, and economic development; his proposed state budget; and his commitment to not raising taxes.
