This episode of the series “En Francais” from August 4, 1985, features Philippe Gustin’s interview with Barry Ancelet, the director of the Center for Acadian and Francophone Studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He discusses the importance of oral tradition in Cajun culture and the Cajun storytellers in Louisiana. This episode also includes a rebroadcast of James Fontenot’s interview with Tonisse Faul, a Cajun storyteller from Sunset, Louisiana. It also includes Fontenot’s interview with Joseph Chaillot of Crowley, Louisiana, a storyteller who shares Cajun stories in English. This episode was preserved through a 2018 CLIR Recordings at Risk Grant.
