Description
This episode of the series “Folks” from November 26, 1989, features the fourth part of Sonya Masingale’s report on the New Black Agenda. She moderates a discussion between Baton Rouge attorney Joseph Guillory and audience members on the top priorities for the new black agenda in the 1990s. The audience members are: Kwanzaa Abdul Khaliq, business consultant; Tecuna Dixon, entrepreneur; Alison Bethel, reporter for the State Times; Thomas Perkins, Jr., attorney; James Wayne, attorney and entrepreneur; and Dr. E.J. Mencer, physician. They discuss: the high number of African Americans still living in poverty; the status of civil rights; the importance of teaching African history; the need for black entrepreneurship; and building up the self-esteem of the black community.
