Description
This segment from the October 11, 1987, episode of the series “Folks” features Sonya Masingale’s report on the failure of Louisiana State University (LSU) and Southern University in Baton Rouge to meet the desegregation goals of the consent decree for higher education. She interviews: Jan Barker and Gail Townsel, black students attending LSU; Greg Bryant, the minority recruiter at LSU; Gwendolyn Boddie, the recruitment director at Southern; Chancellor Wesley McClure of Southern University in Baton Rouge; and Kim Halladay-Corbin, a white student attending Southern. Masingale also conducts an in-studio interview with Dr. Albert Clary, the recently retired executive assistant to the vice chancellor for academic affairs at LSU. He discusses LSU’s progress on meeting other goals set forth in the consent decree.
